What is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?

If you feel slightly panicky at the mention of hypnosis, don’t worry, you’re not alone! Before you purchase an audio, you should understand exactly what it is. And, more importantly, what it isn’t!

Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis as a powerful and deeply effective psychological tool for positive change. Like many alternative therapies, it has its sceptics, but that’s because of a lack of understanding of what it is, and what it can do. Hypnosis has been in existence for centuries and, when used correctly, it can help bring about wonderful, lasting life changes.

When we make changes with hypnotherapy, we make them at the subconscious level. This part of our minds takes things literally, without questioning the information we give it. That’s what makes it so powerful.

Hypnosis is simply a natural state of deep relaxation. When we relax deeply, our conscious, critical mind temporarily drifts away, allowing our unconscious (or subconscious) mind to become open and responsive to positive suggestions. This altered state of consciousness is known as trance. You may be surprised to know that we all enter trance quite naturally every day. Have you ever driven somewhere only to have no recollection of your journey? Or, have you been so engrossed in a book or a television show that you are quite oblivious to everything else around you? That’s a natural hypnotic trance. When we use trance for therapeutic reasons, it is induced by a hypnotherapist. This is usually done by progressive muscle relaxation (PMR). When you are deeply relaxed and your subconscious mind is open, your therapist will make suggestions that may bring about your desired changes. As with any therapy, results vary, and they can’t be guaranteed. However, hypnotherapy can be very powerful and often life-changing.
